Food Service Ministry Led By: Sis. Celestine Smith
I am the seventh child born to Charlie and Susie Thorton. Born and reared in Yoakum, Texas. I graduated from Asberry High School. While in high school I participated in various sports and attended competitions through the state of Texas, especially track competition, the disc thrower. I was also a cheerleader for 4 years, and played basketball as well. St. James Missionary Baptist Church was my church home under the leadership of Rev. A. D. Henderson.
After graduation, I left Yoakum and made San Antonio my home. After movining to San Antonio, I became a member of Memorial Missionary Baptist Church and became involved in various ministries including the Sanctuary Choir, Usher Ministry, Women's Days Chair and Co-Chair for about 12 years. One of the most exciting activities during my time working in these ministries was the publishing of two cook books, which would not have been possible without the participation from each and every one who helped make it a success. I thank each and everyone who made it possible.
I am married to Sidney and to this marriage was born Diana, Elaine and Kenneth, and one Godson, Rayvon. I also have five grandchildren, Michaela, Nina, Emerald, Kenneth, and Michael.
